Dorcas R. Gilmore, Esq. is co-founder of Gilmore Khandhar, LLC, a solidarity economies law firm.
Dorcas is an experienced general counsel and consultant for national, regional, and local nonprofit organizations and social enterprises dedicated to blocking the extractive practices of our current economic system and building collective and restorative economies. Dorcas was an Assistant General Counsel for the NAACP and its 2,200 local, state, and regional affiliates and a Skadden Fellow working with youth-led enterprises and Baltimore neighborhoods resisting gentrification through community benefits agreements.
She brings over 20 years of experience in building and growing racial and economic justice organizations, including being a founding team member of the National Black Worker Center, Law for Black Lives, Baltimore Action Legal Team, and the Baltimore Children and Youth Fund. Dorcas has a deep commitment to training the next generation of movement lawyers and spent over five years as a clinical law professor at the American University Washington College of Law, George Washington University Law School, and the University of Maryland Carey School of Law teaching small business and community equity development law clinics.
